Structure

The International School on "LAndslide Risk Assessment and Mitigation" (LARAM) was founded by the University of Salerno on 12 April, 2005 with the patronage of CERIUS (the University's Centre of Excellence on Hydrogeological Risk).


The School's organs are:

Scientific Committee
Technical Committee
Administrative Unit


The Director is appointed by the Rector of the University of Salerno, from the University Professors of the Geotechnical Engineering research group. The Director convenes and presides over both the Scientific Committee and the Board of Directors and guides all the activities for the accomplishment of the School's mission. The Director of the School is Prof. Leonardo Cascini, full Professor of Geotechnical Engineering at the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Salerno.
The members of the Board of Directors are the Director, the Head of the Technical Committee; the Head of the Administrative Secretariat and delegates of the Sponsor Institutions.

The Scientific Committee is composed of experts in the field of Landslide Risk Management. Every year the Committee sets the criteria for the students' selection, defines the contents of the Courses, chooses the lecturers, and evaluates the results of the School's Programme.

The Technical Committee is in charge of implementing the programme planned by the Scientific Committee, supervising the organisation and evaluation of the Courses, defining and collecting the School's teaching material and managing the School's information system. The members of the Committee are the Coordinator of the School's Courses, who presides over it, and a maximum of four members with proved experience in the field of landslide risk. The Committee' members are Prof. Giuseppe Sorbino (Head), Assistant Prof. Michele Calvello, Assistant Prof. Sabatino Cuomo.

The Administrative Unit's members are the Administrative Manager, appointed by the Rector of the University of Salerno, and a maximum of four members selected by the Board of Directors. The Administrative Unit deals with the School's financial management, the promotion of external relations and of the School's Image, including direct contacts with the media and Institutions (Ministries, Universities, professional associations, local authorities, etc.). It also plans and manages the welcoming and hospitality for teachers and students.

The first three years of Courses (LARAM 2006-2008) were held under the auspices of the "Comunità Montana Penisola Amalfitana".
